Meet Gil

1031161044Gil Miles is a terminally diagnosed  Leukemia patient fighting this disease since his first diagnosis in May of 2002. He is currently undergoing treatment with Venclexta. A targeted tablet therapy that hunts down cancer cells and kills them. The drug has been proven effective in cancer patients with failed prior chemo treatments and those with a 17p gene deletion. As with many drugs, progress may have reduced effectiveness and new treatments are needed to maintain life.

He has started the new drug Venclexta. This a powerful drug with many side effects and the patient must be monitored closely. It’s not IV chemo, it’s taken orally.

Gil is treated at Virginia Cancer Institute under the care of Dr. Maurice Schwarz for the last fifteen years and now Dr. Kelly Hagen in Richmond, Virginia and he states that he has the highest confidence in his doctors and VCI.

He has beaten the odds, for now. Gil Founded Wine for Cures, not for himself, but to raise the very needed and necessary financial resources for awareness projects, research and treatment options for millions of patients with cancer.

Recently, Wine for Cures formed a new foundation to award scholarships to medical students pursuing oncology careers (nurses, doctors, researchers); believing that “a cure” might be found soon. Maybe tomorrow, but surely in the next generation and our “Cancer Scholars” just might be the leading edge of that challenge.

His motto – Live Life!

Gil- We recently met at a HABCC event in September, I work for EVB. I enjoyed speaking with you and hearing your amazing and courageous story. I recently found out that my father has Stage III Prostate Cancer, due to his heart condition he is unable to have surgery. It is for this reason I would very much like to donate my time to helping your organization in any way I can. I lost my mother & Grandmother to Lung cancer, and it just feel like something I really want and need to do. Please let me know if I can help out. I am praying for you and am here to help in anyway.
